The University of Rome'sRhOME for denCity project took first place overall at Solar Decathlon Europe 2014, the prestigious Sustainable Architecture Olympiad, surpassing the other 19 teams from the world's leading universities. Second place went to France and third to the Netherlands.

RhOME, a home for ROME, is a low cost social housing project. The project, which is 100% solar energy powered, produces much more than it consumes. Inspired by the Smartcity philosophy, the aim is to redevelop run-down suburbs to create tomorrow's energetically, socially and economically sustainable residential areas.

The Zeromax minimum thickness under-floor heating system is used for heating and cooling environments, combined with the new Deuclima VMC air treatment unit, all managed by the Smartcomfort ""Smart"" control system, optimized for energy savings. The radiant system played a key role in winning the House Functioning, Comfort and innovation categories. These were the last, decisive elements that ensured RhOME first place on the podium in this international sustainable architecture event.
