Interview with Engineer Dimitri Celli of Case SpA
This is one of a large number of low-energy buildings that Case SpA has designed and built in recent years in its capacity as a design, construction and management company for the public housing sector in the Florence area. This particular building was successfully put forward for tender in 2007 at the Tuscany regional call for tenders for the construction and development of energy-efficient neighbourhoods, which promoted the construction of high energy-efficiency buildings capable of reducing annual heat demand by 50% on 2010 (Legislative Decree no. 311/2006). This reduction was achieved by optimising façade insulation (cladding insulation and high performance window frames) and system performance.
The system consists of a centralised unit with two condensing boilers and an integrated solar system for the production of clean, hot water. The flats are heated using a radiant floor system. The installation company proposed Eurotherm‘s new Europlus-Lambda system, which uses flat sheets of expanded polystyrene sintered with graphite. In addition to the guarantees on performance and thermal efficiency, the system is extremely quick and easy to install on site using the rolls supplied for the 24 mm thickness. Eurotherm also provided excellent support at every stage of installation, with perfect synergy between the two consultants from Florence and Forlì,where the installation company is headquartered.
