First of all we should highlight the interesting example of co-design with the City of Arezzo, which submitted a tender to the regional competition together with the Cooperative that will manage the service, and which also submitted a tender for the practical and educational management of the school, in addition to the conversion project. The latter was gauged in terms of improved energy and system efficiency on one hand and maximum possible comfort on the other, in accordance with an organic design approach aimed at combining energy saving and eco-efficiency with a healthy environment and the welfare and comfort of the little ones. The aim, therefore, was to convert the building taking into account the principles of green architecture, i.e. low environmental impact, use of technologies and materials that are not harmful to humans, achieving high levels of comfort, as well as the conservation and proper use of resources.
Interview with Eng. Enrico Berti (Studio PENTIUM ASSOCIATI)
The goal that we set out to achieve from the very beginning, considering the particular use of the building, was to improve the consumption of resources and conditions of comfort for the occupants. Aspects such as thermal comfort (UNI EN 7730), environmental hygiene, limiting energy consumption and pollution formed the basis of our selection criteria and a radiant floor system seemed the natural choice. Opting for a low temperature system seemed as natural a choice as a condensing boiler with solar integration. In order to install the radiant system, we had to lay sheets of cork 30 mm thick on top of the existing floor before laying the 25 mm ECOPLUS system. (lignin-linked wood fibre) for a total of 55 mm insulation. UNI EN 1264-4.
